My USB controller suddenly dies, making me rmmod uhci_hcd and modprobe it. After that, it works OK. I verified that inserting the battery (i have a laptop) makes it happen, but even connected only to AC, i happens after some time.
I think it might be an ACPI conflict or something... I'm not an expert on this kind of stuff, so I thought about reporting it here, as the USB support works OK under Windows.

Is this reproducible on the latest development kernel? Currently 2.6.16-rc5

Are there any BIOS updates available for your system?

It's an Intel 915GM. There is a BIOS update at HP's page. But I couldn't install them yet, as they only provide Windows version, and the installer only works if my root partition is C: (which isn't, because of my linux partitions) (already talked with them, and they advised me to format my hard drive, so I could change the letter). Assholes...
I found nothing at Intel's site.
I'm starting to think it's a hardware problem, as this started happening under windows too. The USB devices suddenly die...
I'll send this thing back (i'll have no laptop for months). Sorry if this is really a false alarm, but it previously worked OK under windows.

Indeed, the messages seem to indicate a hardware problem or a severely faulty BIOS. If you find that hardware replacement does not solve the issue and  USB works under windows, please reopen.
