Description G. F. 2006-02-24 21:49:51 UTC
I just installed mozilla-firefox-bin-1.5.0.1 (~x86).

One really weird thing is, whenever I start it, www.uiuc.edu (University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) loads up automatically.

I checked the homepage option, www.uiuc.edu was NOT even there.

I was using Fluxbox and added a menu command {/usr/bin/firefox-bin %U} (copied from the KDE menu) and the problem emerged.

Under KDE, the same problem.

I logged in to GNOME and ran firefox-bin, wow, it showed the firefox page that usually shows up after the installation.

When I first started firefox-bin under Fluxbox and KDE, the page didn't show up.

I guessed something's wrong with {/usr/bin/firefox-bin %U} and changed it into {firefox-bin}.

Now, the Univ. of Illinois homepage is not showing up any more under GNOME, KDE, and Fluxbox.

I posted this on Gentoo's Desktop forum, and the reason is....

%U

Firefox recognizes %U as a possible web site address, fails to locate it (naturally), uses the google engine to search for %U, and Google automatically searches for any university (in my case, www.uiuc.edu).

Wrong product, read the description before filing a bug. This has zero in common with Gentoo Bugzilla!

We can't do anything for the misconfiguration of your window manager.
Also, what jakub said.
