Description shadi M B 2006-02-24 08:56:47 UTC
i'm a new gentoo user i didn't succeed to fully install it, but i know something about the installation handbook and i'm dead sure about it, please separate the online installation method from the Universal cd installation, like creating two handbooks, one for the online installation "which would contain the "emerge --sync" method, the seconed for the Universal and packages cd's installation only, Doing that would make things much more easier, In addition will improve the gentoo spreading rate, thank you very much, keep up the good work

We already do provide two handbooks.

Please read this; it's from http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/ :

"We also have release-specific handbooks which include the installation instructions for networkless installations using the released CDs. If you are interested in performing a networkless installation, please consult the *Gentoo Linux 2005.1 Handbook* for your architecture."

If you want the online x86 handbook, you would use www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml .

If you want the networkless/GRP x86 handbook, you would use www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.1/handbook-x86.xml

Note that any online handbooks are in /doc/en/handbook/, while the other *clearly marked* networkless handbooks are in /doc/en/handbook/<version>/.

We provide several warnings in each handbook and on the handbook index page as to whether it is for networked or networkless installation. Please read them more carefully next time.

(Note the bold red font in http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.1/index.xml).
