Unless the mythtv user is in the tty port the backend can't access the serial ports when using an external channel change script.  Adding tty to the MYTHTV_USERS variable corrects the behavior.

Fixed in the forth coming mythtv-0.19_p9163-r1... or the p# might increase.. Who knows... It's fixed and will appear in the tree soon.
