Probably need to push this upstream.... In general the upgrade from 2.6.12 to 2.6.16 went relatively smoothly, albeit the changes in the config layout had a learning curve. My dom0 had a kernel oops last night after which xend didn't work properly and my 2 domU's were zombied. Resetting xend allowed me to restart the domU's without reboot, but I just want to make sure what's going on. ----- emerge info: Portage 2.1_pre4-r1 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.4.5, glibc-2.3.6-r3, 2.6.16-rc3-xen i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.16-rc3-xen i686 AMD Athlon(tm) XP 3200+ Gentoo Base System version 1.12.0_pre16 dev-lang/python: 2.3.5-r2, 2.4.2-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.17 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r7 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1-r1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r3 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 acl alsa apm arts avi berkdb bitmap-fonts crypt cups eds emboss encode foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gpm gstreamer imlib ipv6 jpeg libg++ libwww mad mikmod mp3 mpeg ncurses nls ogg oggvorbis pam pdflib perl png python quicktime readline sdl spell ssl tcpd truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts vorbis xml2 xmms xv zlib elibc_glibc kernel_linux userland_GNU" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS ----- kernel oops: Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 0000008c Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 printing eip: Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 c01fe61c Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 *pde = ma 00000000 pa 55555000 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Oops: 0000 [#1] Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Modules linked in: w83627hf hwmon_vid eeprom i2c_isa iptable_nat ip_nat xt_physdev ipt_LOG xt_limit xt_state ip_conntrack xt_tcpudp iptable_filter ip_tables x_tables i2c_viapro ehci_hcd uhci_hcd 3c59x loop dummy Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 CPU: 0 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 EIP: 0061:[<c01fe61c>] Not tainted VLI Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 EFLAGS: 00010246 (2.6.16-rc3-xen #1) Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 EIP is at netback_uevent+0x8a/0xc2 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 eax: 00000000 ebx: c12abe80 ecx: cad8695a edx: 00000000 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 esi: c12abe84 edi: cad86940 ebp: cd8c92cc esp: c12abe7c Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 ds: 007b es: 007b ss: 0069 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Process xenwatch (pid: 6, threadinfo=c12aa000 task=c0613050) Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Stack: <0>00000000 00000001 00000022 00000015 cad8c8d4 cd8c92cc 0000072c c01fb022 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 d0399800 cd8c92cc 00000015 cad8c8d4 0000072c d0399800 00000003 00000045 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 cd8c92c0 00000771 cad8c88f 00000018 c01f0716 d0399820 cd8c92c0 00000018 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Call Trace: Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01fb022>] xenbus_uevent_backend+0xe7/0xf6 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01f0716>] dev_uevent+0xc5/0xd7 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01a9b44>] kobject_uevent+0x18b/0x351 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01fb08a>] otherend_changed+0x59/0x7c Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01fa717>] xenwatch_thread+0x0/0xfc Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01fe74b>] frontend_changed+0x45/0x67 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c01fa7f1>] xenwatch_thread+0xda/0xfc Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c0126208>] autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x3a Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c0126208>] autoremove_wake_function+0x0/0x3a Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c0125e0e>] kthread+0x79/0xa3 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c0125d95>] kthread+0x0/0xa3 Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 [<c0105a81>] kernel_thread_helper+0x5/0xb Feb 22 17:56:01 vmbase1 Code: 2e c0 8d 74 24 10 56 ff 74 24 3c ff 74 24 3c 8d 5c 24 18 53 ff 74 24 40 55 e8 fb b6 fa ff 83 c4 20 57 e8 4d 75 f4 ff 5f 8b 04 24 <ff> b0 8c 00 00 00 68 20 1e 2e c0 56 ff 74 24 3c ff 74 24 3c 53 Any questions, comments or ideas?
Sorry but I'm afraid this is going to be another "upstream" resolution. To copy/paste from another bug: xen-sources-2.6.16 is a snapshot of the current xen *unstable* tree applied to the -rc3 kernel. There are going to be bugs in it, but there is nothing that I can do about that. If something doesn't work (like creating a domU), ask on the xen mailing lists, and if you still believe it's a bug, please report it upstream at bugzilla.xensource.com. If you believe that this is a bug in the ebuild, or otherwise Gentoo specific, rather than a bug in Xen itself, then please reopen this bug report.
btw, you might like to post on the config changes/problems to the wiki http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Xen_and_Gentoo I'm sure it would help out a lot of people.
