Description Andreas Thalhammer 2006-02-23 02:29:19 UTC
DVD::Rip starts with message:
"[filterlist] (re)scanning transcode's module path /usr/lib/transcode..."
and hangs.

I found a solution at:
http://www.exit1.org/archive/dvdrip-users/2005-11/msg00000.html

This is a situation where the stable tree doesn't work anymore.

Now I'm using ~x86 dvdrip and ~x86 transcode.
The final solution was emerging ~x86 transcode.

Tested with (in that order):
- media-video/dvdrip-0.52.0
- media-video/transcode-0.6.14-r3
--> NO SUCCESS

- media-video/subtitleripper-0.3.4 (~x86)
  (I though it might be related to bug #95020)
  https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95020
--> NO SUCCESS

- media-video/dvdrip-0.97.6 (~x86), requires:
  - media-video/xvid4conf-1.12 (~x86),
  - dev-perl/gtk2-ex-formfactory-0.59 (~x86) and
  - media-video/lsdvd-0.15 (~x86)
--> NO SUCCESS

- media-video/transcode-1.0.2-r2 (~x86), requires:
  - dev-libs/lzo-2.02-r1 (~x86)
--> SUCCESS, DVD::Rip doesn't hang anymore.

So my guess is (although I didn't try the backstep to the stable dvdrip) that DVD::Rip 0.52.0 (x86) will work again with the new transcode version.

The problem may be related to ImageMagick (as stated in the thread following http://www.exit1.org/archive/dvdrip-users/2005-11/msg00000.html) and the resulting buggy transcode filters filter_compare and filter_logo.

One way or the other, the DVD::Rip doesn't work anymore with the current transcode.

Or is it just my specific system?

note the USE=extrafilters on transcode, basically by default you merge -extrafilters, then transcode will not install the offending filters

the ~arch dvdrip checks for that flag not being set, it is just a matter of time till dvdrip can be moved forth to versions that do the check on transcode flags

then this wil be a non issue, i will keep this bug open until then, even if it is a non issue in my eyes, perhaps i add notes regarding that issue to older dvdrip versions, perhaps

Comment 2 Frédéric COIFFIER 2006-03-21 04:49:35 UTC
I confirm the problem.

Solved with unstable version :
media-video/transcode-1.0.2-r2 (~x86)
Comment 3 Disenchanted (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-04-23 20:58:34 UTC
since transcode-1 has gone stable, this should be a none issue now

thanks for reporting and testing
