Description Michael Owen 2006-02-22 11:57:03 UTC
Attached is a new ebuild (slightly modified from the 3.4.3-r1 ebuild) for nethack-3.4.3, adding an IUSE to allow the use of the patch bundle by Jukka Lahtinen. It will need the following patch added to files/ and renamed to 3.4.3-nh343jl.diff.

http://www.netsonic.fi/~walker/nh/nh343jl.diff

http://www.netsonic.fi/~walker/nethack/index.html has information about the patch bundle.

Also attached is a second diff to go into files/ to slightly change the default options of Jukka's patch bundle.

This patch bundle doesn't break save/bones compatibility, and is only interface changes to make it a little more user friendly. It adds things like a colored HP monitor, the ability to color inventory based upon regex settings in .nethackrc (things like making cursed items red, blessed green, etc), more options for picking up/dropping items, a way to dump the output of your character upon death/ascension, showborn/extinct, and many more.

Nice.
I have just extensively (>1 hour) /tested/ this, compiles and runs fine.

Except the homepage URL above is a 404, this is the working one:
http://www.netsonic.fi/~walker/nethack.html
The patch URL is ok.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lawful dwarven @ to take care of.

Yes, please. I've been using a hacked version of the same concept; the JL patches really enhance the Nethack experience.

Given the hundreds of interesting nethack patched out there, I don't think selectively bundling some of them is very appropriate. I've added an epatch_user call to the nethack ebuild, therefore it's now very easy to patch the hell out of your local nethack installation should you so desire.
