Description Thilo Bangert (RETIRED) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-02-21 10:53:59 UTC
Hi,

starting with gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r1 i observe the following behavior:

when booting the machine with a connected usb keyboard, everything is fine.
when unplugging and again plugging the usb keyboard, it is not detected and the following is printed in the kernel log:
[17188938.436000] usb 1-1.2: USB disconnect, address 8
[17188938.436000] usb 1-1.2.1: USB disconnect, address 9
[17188938.436000] usb 1-1.2.3: USB disconnect, address 10
[17188959.240000] usb 1-1.2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 11
[17188959.348000] hub 1-1.2:1.0: USB hub found
[17188959.348000] hub 1-1.2:1.0: 3 ports detected
[17188959.660000] usb 1-1.2.1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 12
[17188969.764000] drivers/usb/input/hid-core.c: timeout initializing reports
[17188969.764000]

i can make it work, though - by using the keyboard which is on my laptop, (pressing some buttons).

[17188969.764000] input: USB HID v1.00 Keyboard [Alcor SILITEK USB KEYBOARD] on usb-0000:00:07.2-1.2.1

[17188969.776000] input,hiddev96: USB HID v1.00 Device [Alcor SILITEK USB KEYBOARD] on usb-0000:00:07.2-1.2.1
[17188969.980000] usb 1-1.2.3: new low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 13

[17188970.140000] input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb-0000:00:07.2-1.2.3

expected behavior: the kernel should (as earlier versions have) just detect the keyboard.

as you may notice the keyboard sits on a (builtin) hub...
i also noticed this behavior on my workstation - which was a bit unpleasent, as it left me without control over the machine, lacking the laptops additional builtin keyboard.

if i can be of further assistence in debugging this, i would more than gladly like to help.
regards
Thilo

Please reproduce in the latest development kernel (currently 2.6.16-rc4)

Please test gentoo-sources-2.6.15-r6 - it should be fixed there.

Thanks for testing. Guess we'll just wait for 2.6.16...

gentoo-sources-2.6.16 is now in portage.
