I'm experiencing the same problem. I think there's something going on, since the same problem is happening at least for another package, that is udev-079-r1 (bug 123249) !!! when i download opera manually from opera.com and specifiy gentoo 1.4/2004.x as target distro I get a tar.gz file while the gentoo-mirrors deliver tar.bz2 files as the ebuild requires. why are the mirrored archives bz2 compressed while the original file from opera is gz compressed? probably this is related to the bug. are the gentoo-mirrored archives repacked? or does opera provide different archives for mirror sites?
