alut-20051024 is now built from package with openal-20051024. This distfile has several typo-like bugs (for example, check alut/src/alutInit.c, function alutInitWithoutContext, first if), so should be replaced - possibly with this: http://openal.org/openal_webstf/downloads/freealut-1.0.1.tar.gz ..as a result of this bug, gentoo now still hasn't working and up-to-date alut implementation. I think the best solution is to finally add media-libs/openal-1.0.1 and media-libs/alut-1.0.1 with corresponding debugged sources from www.openal.org. New ebuilds should remain masked - see bug #123403 this is the same problem (bug #94940): > There is no sound coming out of openal games > like flightgear or x-plane.
