OpenAL version 1.1 (=media-libs/openal-20051024) is widely and safely used today. In portage, this one is still hard masked, but I don't see any reason why, it is backwards-compatible and well tested. Looks like someone just forgot to unmask: =media-libs/openal-20051024 =media-libs/alut-20051024 If I'm wrong (incompatibility with something or so..), please tell me why.
# Tony Vroon <chainsaw@gentoo.org> (29 Oct 2005) # This version of openal uses an external version of alut, as it is no longer # bundled, bringing Linux more in line with other operating systems. What this # means is that this version of openal and alut need to remain masked until all # packages that use alut are fixed for the split libraries. >=media-libs/openal-20051024 media-libs/alut
