This is quite strange and I'm not sure if I troubleshot it correctly. I have two AMD64 PC, a dual-core X2 4600 and a single core 3800, and I run distcc on them to split up intensive compilation jobs. I usually compile on the dual core (i.e. emerge -uN1Dtbav world) and then transfer the packages on the other one and install the packages there (emerge -uN1Dtkav world). The strange thing is that every time I run the above command on the single core it wants to emerge perl-core/Digest-MD5-2.33, even tough the capability is already provided by dev-lang/perl-5.8.7 through virtual/perl-digest-MD5; even weirder is that if I try to 'emerge -uN1Dtav world' (without using pre-built packages) the system does not want to emerge Digest-MD5. The same thing happens if I try to 'emerge world' on the dualie. 'emerge --info' yields the following for the dualie: Portage 2.0.54 (default-linux/amd64/2005.1, gcc-3.4.4, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.15-gentoo-r5 x86_64) Anyone has any idea why this happens?
Possibly related to the relative recent addition of the virtual? ie, maybe its not captured in your pkg, so its defaulting to the way it would have been a few weeks ago? (or...is the portage tree up to date on the target box? worth asking...)
(In reply to comment #1) > Possibly related to the relative recent addition of the virtual? ie, maybe its > not captured in your pkg, so its defaulting to the way it would have been a > few weeks ago? I don't think so, the package has been built after the virtuals were added. I will try to rebuild it anyway, just to be sure. > (or...is the portage tree up to date on the target box? worth > asking...) It is updated almost daily on both machines. Any other idea?
Still a problem? Needs to be assigned to portage folks if so...
(In reply to comment #3) > Still a problem? Needs to be assigned to portage folks if so... > Not at the moment. It went away by itself in a week or so. Marking closed.
