I followed one of the posts above and can confirm the new version works with the old ebuild.
Perhaps someone could produce an official ebuild.. in the meantime this worked for me:

1) download workrave into /usr/portage/distfiles from
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/workrave/workrave-1.8.2.tar.gz?download
2) cd /usr/portage/app-misc/workrave
3) cp workrave-1.8.1-r1.ebuild workrave-1.8.2.ebuild
4) ebuild workrave-1.8.2.ebuild digest
5) emerge workrave-1.8.2
