Description Timothy Miller 2006-02-14 11:19:21 UTC
I'm trying to configure the boot parameters for the kernel (2.6.12-gentoo-r6, I think), according to this document:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/2005.1/handbook-amd64.xml?part=1&chap=10

Unfortunately, any vga= or video= option causes the screen to blank and boot to halt (no HD activity) on boot.

I would like to have 1024x768, and the docs suggest that I should be able to do something like this: vga=0x305 video=vesafb:mtrr

I can't figure out how to correct this. What I would REALLY like is to have a VGA text mode that is more than 80 columns by 25 lines. I'm very confused by this documentation.

This is a help request for hardware configuration, not a documentation problem. Please see the forums (http://forums.gentoo.org) for help on configuring your machine or join #gentoo on IRC (freenode).
