Description John Jaeger 2006-02-11 19:18:55 UTC
Seems as though dev-libs/gmp-4.1.4-r3 broke my clamd install. Clam is installed via the source tarball with configure '--prefix=/usr' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--with-user=defang' '--with-group=defang'.

I have an athlon 2700 system that has been rock stable with a kernel of 2.6.14-gentoo-r4. Today I noticed strange files in /usr/share/clamav/ of incomplete updates to the calm databases. When I ran freshclam, it errored with "invalid instruction". Restarting clamd caused the same error and failed to start.

I looked at all the emerge stuff and noticed the libgmp update. I also remembered calm prefered having that installed for checking databases.

I re-emerged forcefully dev-libs/gmp-4.1.4 (downgraded) and everything took off as normal.

I did totally recompile clam from fresh sources against the r3 libs twice, to no avail.

I can reproduce this if there is a need to feed you more data. I see r4 may be ready to release. I am willing to try that and see if I can reproduce this also.

We don't support packages installed outside of portage.

That's fine. Clam is not broke, in fact it works everywhere else, even against dev-libs/gmp-4.1.4-r3 on Intel boxen.

However there is something in dev-libs/gmp-4.1.4-r3, which is what I filed this bug against, in the Athlon Arch.

Wake up and smell the roses. There are things folks prefer to install manually. And Gentoo should not have an issue with system libs.

However, if that is your point of view, and if it is a general point of view, then Gentoo will eventually go the way of Red Hat.

Ta Ta...

Reopen if app-antivirus/clamav installed via ebuild doesn't work with gmp and include some useful info to debug the problem. If you are installing stuff manually, you are on your own.
