I updated my imagemagick in an emerge -uD world, and afterwards my ruby apps could not requre 'RMagick'.  rmagick was installed through the gem interface (not through portage), and I had to fix it by installing running "gem install rmagick" (which also grabbed a newer version).

Should imagemagick updates from portage be breaking gems I have installed?

We don't support software installed outside of portage.
