I use the rsync.us.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage mirror set for updating portage. While updating off of what I believe is the Wayne State (Michigan) mirror, I found myself downloading 7000+ files. Doing an "emerge --pretend world" then recommended I install a few dozen things that were lower versions of what I already had. Mind you, these were not things that I installed yesterday, but included things that I had upgraded over past month. Running another "emerge sync" off of rsync.gtlib.cc.gatech.edu then restored my list to what is was before.
Confirmed over here, looking into it...
rsync9.de.gentoo.org is out of date, too sv24 root # emerge -pu world These are the packages that I would merge, in order. Calculating world dependencies ...done! [ebuild U ] net-fs/samba-2.2.7a [2.2.7-r0] [ebuild U ] app-admin/sysklogd-1.4.1-r3 [1.4.1-r2] [ebuild U ] app-emulation/vmware-workstation-3.2.0.2230-r1 [3.2.0.2230-r0]
please forget my comment, i was wrong
No administrative contact in the rsync MOTD; there appears to be a gentoo-mirror mailing list which rsync mirror admins are supposed to be on, I'm not sure if that's still maintained (and I'm definitely not on it in any case) - cybersystem?
If no one has anymore details on this mirror, it seems a quick check of the DNS records show the mirror in question to be Wayne State's public FTP site in addition to the rsync mirror. $> host rsync.us.gentoo.org ..... rsync.us.gentoo.org has address 141.217.1.55 ..... $> host 141.217.1.55 55.1.217.141.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer ftp1.wayne.edu. The FTP site lists two public email contacts: Nathan Labadie <ab0781@_ANTISPAM_wayne.edu> and Robert Thompson <ab5602@_ANTISPAM_wayne.edu> (take out the _ANTISPAM_; yes, our addresses are in bugzilla, but theirs don't have to be). So if this mirror is indeed out of date, these two people are potential contacts.
yeah that mirror is outdated.. i sent the admin a mail..
ok, that was a fast answer.. they have problems at the moment so i put it out of the cycle.. the admin will tell me when its up again..
ok its out of the round-robin so i think this bug is fixed..
