xorg-server-1.0.1-r2 failes and tells me, that it cannot write to /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled compiled is a symlink pointing to a direcotry / file that does not exist. I will do a third try on switching to xorg 7.0 this night (21:00 MEZ) and than i can tell you exactly to where it links.
Please, post the output of 'equery b /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled'
having the same problem $ equery b /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled [ Searching for file(s) /usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled in *...] x11-misc/xkeyboard-config-0.7 (/usr/share/X11/xkb/compiled -> /var/lib/xkb) /var/lib/xkb does not exist creating it fixes it
Thanks, reopening.
OK, looks like xkeyboard-config needs to create /var/lib/xkb since it installs a symlink to it.
