Description Alex Fritze 2002-12-15 10:40:19 UTC
I'm trying to install livecd-basic-1.4_rc1_r2 on a Vaio C1VE, booting from the
Sony CD51/A PCMCIA/ATAPI cd drive.
The boot process stops with a 'CD not found' error after failing to mount
/newroot/dev/cdroms/* on /newroot/cdroot (No such file or directory).
This also happens if I do 'rescue ide2=0x180,0x386' at the isolinux prompt :-(

Hi. Please try the latest livecd-x86-basic CD at
http://www.gentoo.org/dyn/experimental/livecd and post your results here. These
are the 1.4 release beta CDs.
Comment 2 Alex Fritze 2002-12-16 03:35:00 UTC
Same problem with livecd-basic-x86-200212100.iso.
Also, 'rescue ide2=0x180,0x386' gives me an 'image not found' error.

Do a "livecd ide2=0x180,0x386" and that should work. Post results here :)
Comment 4 Alex Fritze 2002-12-17 02:35:48 UTC
With livecd ide2=0x180,0x386 it's working now. Thanks :-)
BTW - The isolinux prompt is really difficult to reach. Just holding down
'shift' shows the 'boot:' prompt briefly, but it doesn't actually stop and wait
for input. I'm having to hold down 'shift' and repeatedly tap some letter. Then
in maybe 1 in 10 attempts it will stop and allow me to type something.
Comment 5 Daniel Robbins (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2002-12-22 01:26:41 UTC
Try the "2002122100" CD. The usability issues have been fixed. The image is now
called "gentoo" rather than linux, so type "gentoo bootopts=x,y,z,etc."
Comment 6 Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-03-25 11:24:04 UTC
Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux".

I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers,
this is the only reasonable way to do this.
