I recently updated my nvidia-kernel and nvidia-glx to the latest 4191 release, whenever I drag something while in XFree, be it a window managed by kwin, or an icon on my kdesktop, XFree locks. The system does not however, all applications that are using XFree are fine, it is just unable to draw to the screen. A quick kill and restart of XFree fixes it until I drag again. In addition, when I start a new XFree while a single one is running, it comes up garbled and unusable. I was told in #gentoo to submit a bug report to both you and nVidia, so heres yours. Thanks for your attention, and I'm hoping this can be resolved soon.
Working fine here with a Asus GeForce 3 Ti5 .... Have you tried to switch between kernel and nvidia agpgart drivers ? Or maybe tried to disable FastWrites, etc (check the README with nvidia-glx, or /etc/modules.d/nvidia ..)
Btw, what motherboard/chipset/cpu ?
Abit KX7-333 with an AthlonXP 2200+, fastwrites and all are disabled in the bios and in modules.d, I am using AGPGART. Your GF3 is a Ti, this one is not, I am not sure to what extent there is a difference. It would be nice to test with someone who also has the MSI StarForce 822 GeForce 3 (which is what I have). Thanks for your help.
Just for nothing, you may want to try compiling in MTRR support into your kernel. Granted that I was using a TNT2 Vanta, and so it's not the same chip. Check bug 12105.
I already have MTRR in the kernel.
Could you try the nvidia agpgart driver ?
nox, any updates? have you tried the newest 4 series driver?
Actually, i had to move the GF3, and fast motherboard to WindowsXP, since i had some web designing to do and had to use fireworks, plus wanted to play some non-linux games. Also, my SBLive! Platinum gets a strange alien sound effect in the rear channel when im using 5.1 mode, and i got Klipsch 5.1s, so I gotta stay with Windows until i get my audigy, which won't do that. Then i'll try this again, though i fixed it by downgrading to older drivers when I did have this problem, and I never tried 4191 with Xfree 4.3.
