a simple rename of the shc-3.7 works fine.
tested to work on x86

as far as i remember "maintainer-needed" is for ebuilds nobody want's to take
maintainership so far.
to prevent removal from portage i'm willing to maintain dev-util/shc if that is
possible at all.

Thanks, bumped to 3.8.3 in cvs. Relax, stuff only gets removed from Portage when it's really obsolete :-).
