When I run OpenOffice 2.0.1, all the colours are yellow ... very strange ...

Which desktop environment is this with? OpenOffice takes the font settings from KDE / GNOME, so you might have set something wrong there.

In the preferences under OpenOffice.org > View there is a setting for "Use system font for user interface", try if it changes something, when you disable or enable that.
