Currently after emerging sys-fs/udev you got a lot of messages like "Note: If you are upgrading from a version of udev prior to ...". It would be nice if the ebuild could do these checks by itself and print warnings only when needed. According to unofficial Gentoo Development Guide it is possible: "The most common use for pkg_postinst is to display post-install informational messages or warnings. Note that has_version will operate on the version that was installed, which can be useful for selective upgrade messages." http://dev.gentoo.org/~plasmaroo/devmanual//ebuild-writing/functions/pkg_postinst/
great, care to make a patch to the ebuild to do this?
Created attachment 78515 [details, diff] ebuild patch Sure, here is the patch. Should work for all udev-ebuilds.
Thanks, will be fixed in 083 release (in a few hours.)
