Description Mark McKenna 2002-12-13 11:41:33 UTC
There's a line in /usr/portage/profiles/default-x86-1.4/packages that says to
use sys-libs/slang always. I combed through the dependencies, and there doesn't
seem to be anything there... is there a good reason for this?

we'll visit this issue after 1.4 is released.

to help this along ...
i emerge -i slang on all my boxes and have yet to find a package fail as a result ...
Comment 3 Mark McKenna 2003-02-25 19:53:55 UTC
That's because nothing depends on it, except optionally. And since nothing depends on it, it shouldn't be a default system package, as far as I can tell... ncurses does the same thing; maybe it would do better as a virtual/ansi package.
Comment 4 Aron Griffis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-04-02 18:45:47 UTC
I dislike slang, finding that ncurses works better for every package I've tried, so I'll reassign this to myself and chase it.
Comment 5 Jon Portnoy (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-06-17 19:39:34 UTC
slang was yanked from default-x86-1.4 after testing as part of the recent profile-slimming work.
