Description Hubert Mercier (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-27 06:34:53 UTC
The problem :
---------------

I've had a problem since a few months now, with openoffice v2 and newer.
We tried, in the begining of the school year, to use OOo-2.0 as office suite for our students, but I met a blocking problem : I am still unable to save anything over a NFS share with this soft. I tried to find what could happened, without success. So we stayed with OOo-1.1. But since I must prepare next year early, I am looking for help with this problem.

This problem has a very strange behaviour, as you will see : When I launch OOo from a local testing homedir, it will fire up, create its config files, with no problem. I can close it, and restart it as well, it just works perfectly, but will keep refusing to save any file on a mounted nfs share.
On the other hand, if I try to launch it from a network user, whose homedir is located on the network share, it is even unable to write its own configuration files ! As a result, trying to run it any other times will result in showing up beginning wizard again and again. This make me think that in fast, the problem may be in the writing routines of this software ?

But, even more strange : I managed, on a fast machine, to compile my own version of OOo : it just worked perfectly... Anyway, since I can't block any other machine for a 24-hour compilation, I can't test this again. Any clue welcome on this subject ;-)

details : I am currently using app-office/openoffice-bin-2.0.1 (fr), over NFSv3 homedirs (/home is exported from server). Also tried to tune a few options on nfs server or client, without luck.

There's nothing we could do here, report this upstream (also see Bug 113179).
