Description Mike Green 2006-01-26 21:17:07 UTC
The following packages contain deprecated usage of the head (head -x) command and might not function as expected when used with coreutils-5.93. As requested on gentoo-dev, I will post my list here. This list is generated from my currently running system...

Comment 1 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-01-27 05:39:00 UTC
i'm pretty sure i was wrong about this ...

in previous versions, using `head -#` generated a warning and/or refused to work

but with coreutils-5.93, it's working fine w/out a warning ...
Comment 2 SpanKY gentoo-dev 2006-01-27 05:39:39 UTC
the code must have been refactored or something ... if anyone cares to look into that, it'd be good ...
Comment 3 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-27 18:35:25 UTC
I saw a note in the NEWS file about this:

* Major changes in release 5.90 (2005-09-29) [unstable]

** Bring back support for `head -NUM', `tail -NUM', etc. even when
conforming to POSIX 1003.1-2001. The following changes apply only
when conforming to POSIX 1003.1-2001; there is no effect when
  conforming to older POSIX versions.

I assumed I misread it when I saw your -dev mail and this bug. But perhaps I understood it right the first time: head -1 (etc) is OK :)
