Are you trying to slot 2.0.0 beta and 1.5.0 ? You really need to have 1.5.0 removed and the proper deps for 2.0.0 updated/installed. The ABI errors are causing the problem because the way you have it gaim is trying to use 1.5's ABI when it has been completely changed. Please allow gaim to update/install it's deps fully.
Indeed, gaim 2.0.0 is trying to use the old "plugins" from version 1.5.0. But, when I install gaim with ROOT=/usr/local, I think gaim should use the plugins from the path /usr/local/usr/lib/gaim/, these plugins are available there. That's where the ROOT=/usr/local is used for. Or am I expecting too much from that ROOT= feature? ;-)
you're expecting way too much of ROOT= .. It's only used to install software in a "chroot"... its doesnt modify installed software. It's used to produces stages and stuff like that. There is no way you can have gaim 1.5 and 2.0 installed on the same system.. if you want 2.0.. remove 1.5 and all plugins .. compile 2.0 and then install the plugins.
