Description Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2006-01-24 18:42:21 UTC
We need some directories (and a little over 300 MBytes of space) on the mirrors for a ppc-embedded target (the kurobox and Linkstation embedded NAS products). There's currently an overlay, a stage3 tarball, and portage snapshot, but we'll be working towards getting rid of the custom overlay at some point. So what I'm looking for is a directory on the mirrors:

experimental/ppc/kurobox

and the process for adding/updating the following files:

portage-overlay-20060105.tar.bz2
portage-snapshot-20060104.tar.bz2
stage3-ppc-kurobox-20060108.tar.bz2

I'm now in the ppc herd as well, so I'll be the maintainer of both this stuff and the related ebuilds (as required).

Steve,

Where are these files now?
Comment 2 Steve Arnold archtester gentoo-dev 2006-02-02 00:06:12 UTC
I've been meaning to upload them to toucan, but my ADSL speed is so slow I haven't done it yet... It's probably best though, since it gives me a chance to check for updates and make sure we get a good version out. How about if I put them in my dev space and let you know when they're available? Thanks...

Sounds good, just give me the path to the files and i can post them.

Any chance we can get the pre-compiled (binary) kernel modules for the stock kernels (regular and HG) added to portage? And even two pre-compiled versions of loader.o? These are difficult for end users to compile because they require a specific working GCC 2.9x toolchain to compile.

Sure, but the ebuild stuff comes after... Please file the appropriate new ebuild request bugs for them; sounds like 3 new ebuilds, one each for the kernel modules, and one for the loader. I can't say exactly when, but the necessary stuff will all get added to the tree (until the overlay is gone).
Comment 6 Art Wallace 2006-02-07 19:01:14 UTC
The ebuilds for the standard kernel modules already exist (they are included in the overlay you are adding to the mirrors). The ebuilds need to be seperated from the overlay and the files need to be added to the distfiles servers. Are you sure that another bug report is necessary?

I can certainly file a request for the loader.o ebuild though.

In my home dir:

 ~ $ ls -l 1st_release/
total 126236
-rw-r--r-- 1 nerdboy users 122637 Mar 1 2005 EM_mode_binaries.tar.gz
-rw-r--r-- 1 nerdboy users 47931 Feb 6 17:23 overlay-20060206.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 nerdboy users 22798741 Feb 7 01:57 portage-20060206.tar.bz2
-rw-r--r-- 1 nerdboy users 106145875 Feb 6 17:12 system-20060206.tar.bz2

If you can put these files in the new kurobox directory on the mirrors, that would be great. I over-estimated the size, so it's only about 120 megabytes total (I rsynced them up and verified the sizes and such, but you can always test them yourself). Thanks, dude...

Updated to overlay-20060216.tar.bz2

Christmas housecleaning of bugs.

Is this still valid? If so, reopen with status.
