I have alsa-driver-1.0.10 (but tried many older ones also), and kernel gentoo-2.6.14-r5 (also tried many other ones.)
tried also alsa-driver, and kernel builtin alsa.

alsaconf does not detect this:
00:0e.1 Multimedia controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture (rev 11)

even after loading snd_bt87x by hand, alsa does not see it.
it does not even appear in /proc/asound/modules!

Please report upstream.
May be of help knowing that snd-bt87x does not load cards if they don't carry a subsystem vendor/id that allows the sure identification of the card.

It's id by lspci -n is 00:0e.1 0480: 109e:0878 (rev 11)

I also tried the load_all=1 option for the module, but did not help.
