- Overview Description - I installed dbus/hal/ivman and added them to default runlevel. The next time I rebooted, the machine froze just at when hdparm was starting. As I tried several things, it seems like to make it freeze, I only needed dbus/hald and hdparm to be on the default runlevel. If I take hald or hdparm off from default runlevel, it will not freeze. Also, taking dbus/hald/ivman off from default runlevel, and having hdparm on default runlevel, but load dbus/hald/ivman after the system boots, it will not freeze, like putting those 3 in the /etc/conf.d/local.start to load up. -Steps to Reproduce- On an x86 box with 2005.1 Gentoo with 2.6.13 kernel, 1. emerge dbus hal ivman 2. add those 3 to default runlevel (only dbus and hald is needed for it to happen) 3. reboot -Actual Results- Froze the machine completely just when hdparm started. -Expected Results- Does not freeze. -Additional Information- emerge info Portage 2.0.53 (default-linux/x86/2005.1, gcc-3.3.6, glibc-2.3.5-r2, 2.6.13-gentoo-r5 i686) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.13-gentoo-r5 i686 Transmeta Efficeon(tm) Processor TM8000 Gentoo Base System version 1.6.14 dev-lang/python: 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.22 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/lib/X11/xkb /usr/share/config /var/bind /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/terminfo /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=pentium3 -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig buildpkg distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://ftp.ecc.u-tokyo.ac.jp/GENTOO http://mirror.gentoo.gr.jp http://gentoo.oregonstate.edu http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.jp.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="x86 X alsa anthy apache2 apm berkdb cjk cli crypt cups dba expat fam firefox flac gd gdbm gmp gnome gstreamer gtk2 hal imap ipv6 jpeg ldap libg++ libwww mmx mozsvg ncurses nls nopop3d pam pcre perl php png python readline samba sasl snmp sockets sqlite sse ssl tcpd truetype udev unicode usb userlocales xml2 zlib userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS, MAKEOPTS The reason I'm masking 2.6.14 kernel is it seems like mpd stops working with 2.6.14 kernel, maybe I write bug report on this as well.
