Description Matti Bickel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-01-19 14:20:56 UTC
Today i noticed a *very* strange behaviour when using ssmtp.
The message-delivery would fail with a segfault if i had my -au and -ap options set. Without it works flawlessy.
I'm using a fresh install of ssmtp with my config (attached) copied over. The corresponding mail server is qmail.
I produced a strace of it, but can't make sense of it. The debug message is kinda irritating:

[<-] 220 server8324611272.serverpool.info ESMTP
[->] EHLO terra.atHome
[<-] 250 8BITMIME
[that's it, i swear!]

Comment 2 David Grant 2006-07-12 09:37:17 UTC
I get the same thing, except instead of 250 8BITMIME, I get 250 EHLO, then the segfault just like you.
Comment 3 David Grant 2006-07-12 14:10:06 UTC
What version did you try?

I just downgraded from 2.61-r2 to 2.60.9 and the problem is gone.

Who is the upstream developer for ssmtp?
Comment 4 Matti Bickel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-07-12 14:41:08 UTC
The issue seems to be gone on my side. Maybe a glibc or other upgrade fixed it (or the vogons simply aren't hitting my machine that hard anymore...)

You having the same problem now suprises me. The upstream of ssmtp is the debian project. See http://packages.qa.debian.org/s/ssmtp.html

Seems to be a non-issue now.
