Hi, I have about 30 gentoo servers, however I feel the need for a different gentoo profile for servers, think about the changes in the last year: - baselayout update and most system script reconfiguration - mysql update to 4.1 with db backup and restore and service unavailable for some minutes - gcc upgrade - glibc upgrade - apache changes to new configuration style - openvpn changes his configuration 3 or 4 times and so on compare this with debian servers... I think for servers is most suitable a separate profile with update only for security or reliability and a big update to the next release every 6-8 months, would be also very useful have an official grp with some defaults use for long time compile package such as glibc, so I don't need to do my personal binary package and distribute it on my servers what do you think about? We will see a similar profile in futures gentoo release sorry for my poor english regards Nicola
See recent "GLEP 19: Gentoo Stable Portage Tree -- ideas" thread on gentoo-dev ml http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel/34933 for related issues. Bugzilla is not a proper place for this discussion, marking upstream. Thanks.
