couldn't emerge kxmleditor 1.1.4 as compiling stopped and spitted out following  (quite many times):

I too had similar problems, I believe my problems were because I updated gcc from 3.3 -> 3.4 without rebuilding everything necessary.

After running
   emerge -e system
   emerge -e world

I could emerge kxmleditor just fine.

Yep, smells like a screwed up toolchain (update). http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gcc-upgrading.xml should be helpful.
