Description Josiah Barber 2006-01-13 11:35:15 UTC
I ran 'emerge xmms-kde' and the applet was installed to

/usr/share/apps/kicker/applets/xmms-kde.desktop

but it didn't show up when I tried to add it as an applet. I poked around and found the directory

/usr/kde/3.4/share/apps/kicker/applets/

with other applets in it. So I copied it to there, and then it worked.

I believe a have a completely standard gentoo system, I haven't tweaked any settings and keep it up to date. So it seems like it should be installed into that second location to begin with. I am not a gentoo developer so I don't know where the install script is to add "kde/3.4/" to, but adding those 8 characters should fix the problem. Either that or the install script should alter a setting somewhere in kde to make it check the first location for applets.

what does `echo $KDEDIRS` output, from a konsole ?

the plugin is installed on the right place... maybe you have your kde broken.

$ echo $KDEDIRS
/usr

That does seem strange, but I certainly haven't done anything to set it to "/usr". And everything else in KDE works fine.
