i have gentoo 1.4_rc1 running on alpha server 7000R SMP kernel i installed the blackdown jdk using portage, and set it as default vm (according to the java doc). but programs trying to use the vm can`t find it and at he command promt stuff like java or javac are not working (not found) the other thing is, that i`ve heared blackdown is not as fast and up to date like other vm`s. and since compaq ofers a special vm for alpha cpu, that`s maybe the best vm to use, but it seems like there is no ebuild for that vm. would be great if someone could help me with this issue. thx!
added new ebuilds to portage (compaq-jdk and compaq-jre). They are appropriatly added to the alpha-profile and work fine for me. Please test.
the new ebuilds work. but when trying to compile cocoon (java xml framework) the vm crashes because of memory problems. maybe this is a new bug !?
Peter, if you want to chase this bug further, then please attach some debugging output. We have some java developers, and some alpha developers, but the intersection is nil. So you'll need to post some debugging information, which we'll in turn verify then pass on to HP to look at this further. I'm marking this bug RESOLVED, NEEDINFO. Please change the status to REOPENED if you post new information.
Resolving NEEDINFO since this bug was accidentally reopened.
