Here is ebuild for optional compilation icewm with "taskbar workspace buttons with window preview"
feature.

works fine on x86 with x11-base/xorg-x11-6.8.2-r4 and gcc-3.3.6.
the following 2 new options are available after the path: (put 'em in
the "preferences"-file)
--- snipp ---
TaskBarWorkspacesShowBorders = 1 # 0/1
TaskBarWorkspacesShowNumbers = 0 # 0/1

the patch from description should go to ./files/icewm-1.2.23-aworkspaces-0.3.patch

Can you guys see if this patch still applies or is necessary to newer versions of IceWM (>=1.2.30)?  thanks

The last version of this patch still works with 1.2.30

Ok, it finally dawned on me that this is a feature request, and not a bugfix.  In that case, it needs to be submitted upstream and included in theirs.
