Attached is a patch for current developement release of ScientificPython. I think it would be nice to have it in portage and marked as testing. Please also note that ScientificPython is now hosted on: https://sourcesup.cru.fr/projects/scientific-py/ and has a new license: CeCILL which is compatibile with GPL and French legal system. And maybe DESCRIPTION could be changed to what is on project website: ScientificPython is a collection of Python modules for scientific computing. It contains support for geometry, mathematical functions, statistics, physical units, IO, visualization, and parallelization. Paralelization is not supported by this ebuild, though.

Is there some way to avoid that annoying hardcoded per-version number in SRC_URI?

I put both the stable 2.4.11 and the development 2.5.11 versions in the http://gentooscience.org overlay. Please report any bug here.
