this release of cups has this instruction:

# Let foreign charset PDF's print. (Bug: 67493)
dosym /etc/xpdfrc /etc/cups/pdftops.conf

but now cups depends on poppler, and this link in no longer needed

well, I guess it iss still needed, so we maybe need to supply it ourselves now that xpdf does not do it any longer?

poppler does not need the xpdfrc.

I fixed the various cups ebuilds thank you!
