Don't know if this really matters, but removing "vanilla" from my USE flags seems to solve it (/usr/portage/profiles/use.desc says not to set the flag globally...don't know why I had it).
Comment 2 GregS 2006-01-02 06:09:58 UTC
I had vanilla USE flag in my /etc/make.conf. So I removed it. Then I put this flag to package.use, and the error still exist. Then I removed this flag from package.use and i use it in Command Line - USE="vanilla" emerge -v gcc, and error still exist. The error disapear when I wasn't use vanilla USE flag at all. So i am leaving this bug open, because i am unable to compile gcc with vanilla flag at all. Without this flag all seems to be ok.

you shouldnt be using USE=vanilla since you probably have no idea what it's doing

fixed in cvs
