Description Lex 2005-12-31 20:20:57 UTC
I just did a stage 3 installation on a Pentium 3 733MHz computer, and it will not boot properly.

I followed the instructions in the Gentoo Handbook. I used 2005.1-r1

When it starts, I get to the normal init process, it checks the filesystems, etc.

Then I get a message that repeats a lot saying 'INIT: Cannot execute "/sbin/agetty"' And then it says something about "respawning too fast disabled for 5 minutes"

I'm still able to chroot from Knoppix, and that's what I'm using right now.

I re-emerged util-linux and it's updated to the latest stable version. I thought that would be a good way to go because agetty is a part of util-linux

Here's a copy of my emerge --info

Anything you could do to help would be greatly appreciated.

Right now I'm doing an "emerge -veu system" Hopefully that will help.

Thanks for your help

It was a problem with fstab

The root and boot filesystems had 'user' appended to them.

It works now, sorry for the trouble
