Paragraph 2 of HBRL license... By clicking on or accepting the "ACCEPT" option below, or by installing, copying or otherwise using the Software, you agree to be bound by the terms of this License Agreement. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE TO THE TERMS OF THIS LICENSE AGREEMENT, CLICK THE "ACCEPT" BUTTON AND/OR DO NOT INSTALL THE SOFTWARE. 2. LICENSE RESTRICTIONS. a) You may not: (i) permit other individuals to use the Software except under the terms listed above; So... basically, to download the bugger, the license requires you to actually click through the accept. User's aren't doing this, obviously. Further, whoever tracked down the URL is violating the license. See the start of section 2 if you disbelieve; enabling others to download without accepting the license, thus they're violating. Sucker needs to be restrict="fetch"
not really if you want to get anal you can add a call to `check_license` in pkg_setup
check_license barely cuts it. RESTRICT="fetch" isn't skirting the language involved...
I thought the original ebuild was created with "Okay" from Real itself. Chris you used to be the contact with Real, can you clear this up?
(In reply to comment #3) > Chris you used to be the contact with Real, can you clear this up? While at it, you might ask them to make it available with normal http, not https (if they have no issues with downloading it directly). :P
yo, chris, comment?
"By clicking on or accepting the "ACCEPT" option below, or by installing, copying or otherwise using the Software," That "or" seems to save us. The wording may not be the greatest, but I don't think we are in violation since it allows someone to click ACCEPT _or_ install it to accept the license. Chris: what was Real's stance on the original ebuild? I don't think we have a problem, but I would like to know how they felt before we close the bug.
(being assigned and CC'ed to a bug is weird)... Anyways, I emailed Vikram and I'll just wait for him to respond.
Chris, anything from Real? I personally don't see a problem with this, does anyone else?
Real Says: Hi Chris, I can help you with your questions/request below. Endusers can download our RealPlayer for Linux from www.real.com/linux and run it after agreeing to the EULA. They can also get it the RealPlayer for Linux (includes RARV decoders, mp3, etc) and Helix Player for Linux (GPL, RPSL) source code or binaries from the Helix Community. https://player.helixcommunity.org/ . We do not do QA testing on Gentoo. FYI. If Gentoo would like to distribute RealPlayer for Linux just execute the attached RealPlayer Linux Contribution and Distribution license agreement. We would love to have Gentoo do this and test the RP. If you have any other questions please let me know and I will be happy to help. Scott Nelson Dir Helix SF CA USA
Okay, so based on his response, I'm not sure my interpretation is correct now. Any other opinions on whether or not we have a problem?
Doesn't really seem to be a problem to me. Please reopen if you believe I am wrong and please point out why :)
