Hi :) Did you read what it said?  Did you download the sdk manually from
java.sun.com and put it in /usr/portage/distfiles?

I've become spoiled by the effortless operation of emerge ;-) apologies!
It really is pretty cool.
If even I can setup an OpenSSH server and PuTTY client then something has to 
be right.

Yup works fine if you obey the message (having said that I noticed on the Sun 
download site that sun-jdk-1.4.0 was a prerequisite so maybe it could be a 
dependency for the sun-j2ee-1.3? Or was that blackdown?)
