This is what I get for not doing due dilegence before making a bug report. I just found the note in the ebuild that the headers have to be installed by myself first. So I am closing this bug report as invalid, since the problem was on my end not on yours. I apologize for making a bad bug report.
Actually there's no reason to keep an option that does not work, I've removed it.
