I'm using gnome-2.12 and gnome-volume-manager-1.5.4. Like in previous versions of gnome gnome-volume-manager should be started as a deamon by gnome-session or something, but it doesn't. In the Removable Drivers and Media preferences the auto mounting stuff are enabled - and once I start that preferences window the daemon starts up - but it's not normal that I should run the prefs every time I log in to my session. emerge --info: Portage 2.0.51.22-r3 (default-linux/ppc/2005.1/ppc/G4, gcc-4.0.2, glibc-2.3.6-r1, 2.6.15-rc6 ppc) ================================================================= System uname: 2.6.15-rc6 ppc 7447A, altivec supported Gentoo Base System version 1.6.13 dev-lang/python: 2.4.2 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.12 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.59-r6 sys-devel/automake: 1.4_p6, 1.5, 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r1 sys-devel/binutils: 2.16.1 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.20 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.11-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="ppc" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CBUILD="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=G4 -mtune=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="powerpc-unknown-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/2/share/config /usr/kde/3/share/config /usr/share/config /var/qmail/control" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/gconf /etc/env.d" CXXFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=G4 -mtune=G4 -maltivec -mabi=altivec -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="autoconfig distlocks sandbox sfperms strict" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/distributions/gentoo" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/gentopia" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="ppc X a52 aac acl alsa altivec audiofile avahi berkdb bitmap-fonts bluetooth bzip2 cairo cdr crypt cups dbus dga dri dvd dvdr eds emboss evo exif expat fam fbcon firefox flac fortran gdbm gif glitz glut gmp gnome gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 hal howl idn ieee1394 ipv6 jpeg lcms libwww logrotate mad matroska mng mono mp3 mpeg nautilus ncurses nfs nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ogg oggvorbis opengl pam pci pdflib perl pic pie png pnp posix ppds python readline samba scanner sdl spell sqlite ssl svg symlink tcpd theora tiff truetype truetype-fonts type1-fonts udev unicode usb vorbis xml2 xv zlib video_cards_radeon userland_GNU kernel_linux elibc_glibc" Unset: ASFLAGS, CTARGET, LANG, LC_ALL, LDFLAGS, LINGUAS
You need to save your session in order to have it run on login. This is an upstream issue.
