Description Frederick Alexander Thomssen 2005-12-20 11:11:05 UTC
Hi,

after upgrading to MySQL 4.1.16, it won't start.

/var/log/mysql/mysqld.err says:

051219 22:37:09 InnoDB: Started; log sequence number 0 892434488
051219 22:37:09 [Warning] './mysql/host' had no or invalid character set, and default character set is multi-byte, so charac
ter column sizes may have changed
051219 22:37:09 [Warning] './mysql/user' had no or invalid character set, and default character set is multi-byte, so charac
ter column sizes may have changed
051219 22:37:09 [Warning] './mysql/db' had no or invalid character set, and default character set is multi-byte, so characte
r column sizes may have changed
051219 22:37:09 [ERROR] Fatal error: mysql.user table is damaged or in unsupported 3.20 format.

/var/log/messages tells me:

Dec 20 08:20:18 aquila rc-scripts: MySQL NOT started (0)
Dec 20 08:20:18 aquila rc-scripts: FAILED to start service mysql!

After downgrading to MySQL 4.1.15-r2, it worked again. Do I have to convert something in order to use the new MySQL?

greetz,

freddy
