Description Sebastian Fohler 2005-12-16 19:03:00 UTC
Even if the stage1 isn't supportet anymore, there is a faq entry that it is not suggested to use this stage for bootstrapping. I've heard from someone in the channel that there is a problem with this stages cause there catalog is not complete, would it be possible to create complete stage1, maybe there are others like me who would want to use the stage1 as before, even if it is not supported officially

maybe as before is not the right expression, what I meant is more likely to be used as in a stage3 but without problems. My intention is to keep the first packet as small as possible.

The stage1's that are on the mirrors should work fine, provided you know what you are doing.

Instructions for performing a stage 1 are here:
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/faq.xml#stage12

I would note that a stage3 will give you the same result as a stage1 + bootstrap + emerge -e system in 99% of cases unless you are doing something very odd, in which case you probably already know how to properly do a stage1 build. In any other case a pre-made stage3 is recommended.

Quick change of platform in bugzilla. Sorry about the email.
