I've emerged fine gawk-3.1.5 with collision-protect here, why is it pmasked? It
can be safely unmasked, at least on tiger, or am I missing something?

it used to collide because it wasn't g-prefixed at that time.  Since awk !=
gawk, I'm still not confident this is a good solution, but the mask is legacy. 
Since this is going to change in a prefixed setting, I'd like to postpone this.
