I have just installed Gentoo 2005.1 to a new machine equipped with Intel SATA/RAID controller (Intel TD945GTP motherboard). The system is (currently) installed on an IDE disk, but during the installation 3 disks connected to the SATA controller were visible as /dev/sd[abc]. After configuring and rebooting to a new kernel (gentoo-sources-2.6.14-r4) with the ata_piix driver (tried both built-in and modular) the disks are no longer visible. The system log mentions the ata driver DISABLING them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Setup 2.6.14-gentoo-r4, with ata_piix (built-in or module) 2. Restart the machine 3. ls /dev Actual Results: The SATA disks are not visible. Expected Results: The disks should be accessible as /dev/sd[abc] # cat /var/log/dmesg Dec 13 19:51:37 tachyon libata version 1.12 loaded. it's working good with me, have you check you .config ? libata version 1.12 loaded. ata_piix version 1.04 ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:00:1f.2[B] -> GSI 23 (level, low) -> IRQ 20 PCI: Setting latency timer of device 0000:00:1f.2 to 64 ata1: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xA800 ctl 0xA402 bmdma 0x9400 irq 20 ata2: SATA max UDMA/133 cmd 0xA000 ctl 0x9802 bmdma 0x9408 irq 20 ata1: dev 0 cfg 49:2f00 82:7c6b 83:7f09 84:4003 85:7c49 86:3e01 87:4003 88:207f ata1: dev 0 ATA, max UDMA/133, 320173056 sectors: lba48 ata1: dev 0 configured for UDMA/133 scsi0 : ata_piix ata2: dev 0 cfg 49:2f00 82:346b 83:7d01 84:4003 85:3469 86:3c01 87:4003 88:207f ata2: dev 0 ATA, max UDMA/133, 312581808 sectors: lba48 ata2: dev 0 configured for UDMA/133 scsi1 : ata_piix Vendor: ATA Model: Maxtor 6Y160M0 Rev: YAR5 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05 Vendor: ATA Model: ST3160827AS Rev: 3.42 Type: Direct-Access ANSI SCSI revision: 05 Chipset Intel 945 ICH7
Is this reproducible with the latest development kernel? (currently vanilla-sources-2.6.15_rc7)
Created attachment 76648 [details] my kernel .config Confirmed with 2.6.15-rc7 (sorry for the delay). My kernel .config attached.
Ok, looks like an upstream bug. Please file a bug at http://bugzilla.kernel.org and post the new bug URL here.
