Description Paweł Mielechowicz 2005-12-11 20:40:41 UTC
When I wan't to boot my computer with
udev-077-r2 , r3 or r4 I get an error
and my computer stops.
I can only do ctrl-d to reboot.

I get this message:
cp: cannot stat /lib/udev/devices/*
and then my "mount" can't mount my /dev/hda1
partition. I have reiserfs on it.

so I have created a dir /lib/udev/devices ,
but still I have this error.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge udev-077-r2; #or newer
2.reboot
3.

Hi

udev-077-rc4 brings the error messages befor: "fsck.ext3: No such file or
directory while trying to open /dev/hda1 The superblock could not be read or
does not ..... " away.
But the machine can't boot with 077-rc4, so you can downgrade to udev-071 with a
live cd. Then the machine boots without any problem. So I think there is a
Problem with udev or the baselayout.

I use 1.12.0_pre11-r3 baselayout.

So, you are using 2.6.15-rc5? Can you attach your kernel .config to this bug?

Also, can you give me the _exact_ messages the screen shows, during the boot
proess, and the error messages?

Also, does rebooting with 2.6.14 make things work?
Comment 4 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-12 22:58:54 UTC
Oh, and I bet that you don't have CONFIG_KOBJECT_UEVENT selected :)

Please enable that and try the kernel again.
Comment 5 Mathias Zimmermann 2005-12-15 12:51:16 UTC
Hi

You won. But where I should know that I need to activate CONFIG_KOBJECT_UEVENT
(Userspace Events)?

But that solves the Problem!
Comment 6 Greg Kroah-Hartman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-12-15 22:47:43 UTC
You shouldn't have, that's why the kernel developers just made it very hard to
disable that kernel option for the final 2.6.15 release.
