I've renamed the portage's ebuild to 70.1 and works without any problems on ~x86 with modular Xorg.

Blackbox 0.70.1 fixes lot of bugs and it's avaible since 2005 (more than a year ago).

Please, could anybody tell me why gentoo commonbox team doesn't update this ebuild?
I hope an answer.

Thanks you.

I am truly sorry about this. The blackbox ebuild apparently has no active maintainer so this bug was left open for a (very) long period of time. Anyhow, I have bumped the ebuild to 0.70.1. I tested it for a bit and it seems to be working fine. Thank you for being patient. :)

Hello again, blackbox-0.70.1 is the stable version since more than a year, so ~arch should be removed.
I think one and a half year is enough time for this software to be tested...

Here is the ChangeLog with corrections:

While 0.70.1 might have been released quite some time ago, it has been in the tree for only a week. I believe it would be much better to give it a few more weeks to be used and tested on Gentoo systems before stabilisation occurs. Feel free to remind us a month from now, and if all is working fine, a stabilisation bug will be opened. Blackbox has been released for 18 months thus far, and I'm sure one more won't hurt.

Any other package is affected with this update, only blackbox.
And as we can read in ChangeLog, this version solves lot of blackbox-0.70.0 bugs.
This version should be in portage since 18 months so 17 months ago this version should be stable.

One month more don't hurt, but everything that has happened with this software since 12/07/2005 hurts very much.

I understand that is safe wait until Gentoo users that don't test it before blackbox-0.70.1 be included on portage could test it, but I've never see anything similar with other software in portage.
If this ebuild has no maintainer, ask it to anybody, I'm sure lot of people would like to do it and this will never happens again.

In any case, thanks you very much for being the only one that have answered us and to have included this software on portage tree, and thanks God for local overlay :-P

I understand that you are anxious to see this become stable in the tree, but it's not too smart QA-wise to mark it stable after only a week in the tree, whether or not the package's addition into the tree was delayed. The past is the past, and we can't go back 18 months and add the package, so it's not really relevant to this. Policy is to have it in testing for at least 30 days, and I don't find this urgent enough to break the policy. Again, I'm sorry for you having to wait so long, but there is not really much I can do right now. I hope you understand. :)
Comment 13 Federico Moro 2007-05-09 23:46:10 UTC
You have reason, I knew this policy and I understand it, I won't disturb you again since next month :P
Thanks you very much for your attention.
